Bespoke builds

Burgoine and Weston building contractors specialise in bespoke build projects, turning designs into reality and realising the clients vision for their dream home.

Designing and building your own home isn’t something you do every day and can be a very daunting task. We will take the pressure off by assisting every step of the process to ensure the project runs smoothly and enjoyably.

As well as undertaking the building work, we are able to manage the project throughout from liaising with architects on drawings, right through to arranging plastering ready for decorating.

What is a bespoke building?

A bespoke building is a unique structure tailored to the client's preferences and the specific requirements of its location. Unlike the uniformity seen in many commercial, mass-produced buildings, bespoke structures emphasise individuality and craftsmanship in their design. Such homes are intricately planned according to the homeowner's personal tastes and functional needs, often featuring custom layouts, optimal space utilisation, and distinctive elements.

What to consider when planning a bespoke building?

There’s a lot to consider when planning a bespoke build project. But here are a few key considerations to get you started…

  • Planning
If you have a good idea of what you want from your bespoke build before you start building, this will help the project to run smoothly. Once work is underway there will be a whirlwind of decisions being thrown at you daily, so try to have as many details in place from the outset as possible. Research appliances, flooring, light fixtures and decor themes, even furniture for spaces. It’s likely you will change your mind on some things along the way as things evolve, but this is normal!

  • Budget
It is important to understand the budget for your bespoke building project and review it regularly during the project. A good building contractor will be able to give you estimates at every step of the way, but there may be instances where cost exceeds estimates due to unforeseen circumstances, so it’s a good idea to think about contingency, or areas where you could cut back on if required. As a rough estimate, a bespoke house will cost between £1,000 and £3,000 m2 in total.

  • Materials
Taking time to select the right materials for a bespoke building project will help with budgeting and future frustrations. The structure is key to the overall outcome of a bespoke build, but the finishes are what will give it the distinctive quality and ‘je ne sais quoi’.

  • Environmental factors
Building a bespoke home from the ground up enables you to make choices that have less environmental impact, and may help to save you money in the long run, systems, such as solar panels, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, thermal efficient insulation, water conservation methods and low energy lighting.
